(Q) Am I required
to sign a long-term contract for your residential
service?
| (A) Absolutely not. We do not require a
long-term contract. It’s a pay as you go
service. Simply tell us you want to quit
service any time. This is the best way for us
to insure you will receive the best customer
service. And this is our commitment to
constantly deliver on that promise. |
(Q) What type of
equipment do I need in my home to pick up the wireless
signal?
| (A) Your equipment purchase will ensure you
pick up the signal from our Access Point,
assuming there is an adequate line-of-sight.
This brings the internet service into the
house, just like a telephone line, or cable,
except wirelessly. If you have a wireless
router, you may plug it into that and
distribute this internet service throughout
your house for multiple computers to connect.
|
(Q) What speeds
will the service provide?
| (A) Speeds are dependent upon a number
variables. Standard users will be configured
for speeds that are approximately 1.5Mb
downloads and 512Kb uploads. Deluxe users will
be configured for 3.0Mb downloads and 640Kb
uploads. During periods of heavy traffic, users
may experience speeds that are significantly
slower than stated. With that said, you will
experience speeds that are significantly higher
than current dial-up speeds. |
(Q) The advertised
price is that an introductory price? Is there a setup
fee?
Are there any other fees for
service?
| (A) The advertised prices are not
introductory prices. They are the permanent
prices per month for Standard and Deluxe Plans
depending upon whether you live within or
outside of the city limits. There is a one-time
installation and equipment charge, however. See Installs. |
(Q) Is your new
wireless service compatible with a Macintosh or
Linux based systems?
| (A) Yes, our system uses standards based
devices such as 802.11b/g/n wireless, and
ethernet connectivity. As long as your computer
has either an ethernet card/port or 802.11b/g/n
wireless card, it should be able to connect to
our system. |
(Q) Can I share
the connection with more than one computer in my
home?
| (A) totheHome.com Basic residential service
will allow only one physical device to connect
per account. If you purchase a wireles router
this will give you the ability to share the
connection with multiple computers. A
router/firewall can be purchased from us or at
any electronics store for around $40, along
with PC cards or USB wireless adapters for
about $30. |
(Q) Does
totheHome.com service require a phone
line?
| (A) No, totheHome.com service is provided via
a wireless connection so no phone lines are
necessary. |
(Q) Does
totheHome.com service stay connected 24/7 or does it
have
to connect every time I want to use
it?
| (A) totheHome.com service is an "always on"
connection. At some future time, we will be
requiring that users log on via a web page to
utilize the service, but this will only happen
once every 24 hours. |
(Q) Are there any
minimum requirements for my computer to access this
system?
My current computer is a
486!
| (A) Most computers that have been purchased
in the last 8 years will be more than adequate
for utilizing our totheHome.com service. With
that said, your computer should be a minimum of
a Pentium II machine running Windows 98 or
newer (Preferable Windows 2000 or XP) and must
have a network card installed. If you have an
old 486 as mentioned above, you will not be
able to access our system. |
(Q) When will the
service be available?
| (A) Network installation is complete in the
town of Cologne and
Hamburg. Register online now
to be scheduled for testing and installation of
equipment if necessary. |
(Q) My computer is
located in the basement. Will this affect performance
of the wireless internet service?
| (A) Although the connection from the Access
Point to the house is a wireless connection,
through the radio transceiver that is installed
on your house, from there an ethernet cable is
run to your computer or wireless router. If
your computer is located in the basement we
simply run the ethernet cable from the radio
transceiver (typically on your roof) to your
computer or wireless router where ever it is
located in the house. |
(Q) Will my
computer be safe from viruses and spyware on your
system?
| (A) Unfortunately, since your computer is
connected directly to the Internet, it is quite
likely that it will come in contact with
viruses and spyware. While we cannot stop this,
you can take measures to help protect yourself.
Setting up a router/firewall, and keeping
up-to-date anti-virus software and spyware
removal software will help lessen the chances
of you running into these problems and make
your browsing experience that much better. |
(Q) Will my
Voice-Over IP Phone, VPN connection, or video games
work
with the TotheHome.com Wireless Internet
service?
| (A) 99% of the above connections will work on
our system without experiencing any
difficulties. |
(Q) How do I setup
my email accounts?
| (A) This can be done during your
installation. Otherwise simply contact Tech
Support to setup. |
(Q) What do I do
if I forget my email password?
| (A) If you do forget your email password,
give us a call at 952-466-2140 and we can reset
that for you. |
(Q) How do I setup
my webspace?
| (A) Due to a lack of demand we do not offer
this any longer. |
(Q) Can I run my
own Web, Email, DNS, Application or Game
server?
| (A) We do not allow servers of any type to be
run on the Residential plans. |
(Q) What security
risks are imposed by the totheHome.com network being
wireless, can anyone see my
data?
| (A) This is a common concern of the wireless
network. The truth is that you are connecting
to the open web and someone could potentially
"see" your traffic on our wireless network, or
after your data leaves our network and is on
the wired connection using certain types of
programs. This is no different than any other
providers network and this could give anyone
access to any unencrypted passwords or data.
This is why most websites, such as banks and
online retailers, have secure connections or
https://. This ensures that all information
that is passed between your computer and their
servers is encrypted so that if anyone does
intercept the information, it will not be
readable. |
(Q) What are the
Terms and Conditions associated with a Residential
Account?
|
